Turquoise

Turquoise is formed by water acting on aluminium and copper, which gives the stone its blue colouration. Shades of green come from iron impurities.

Sunlight will cause turquoise to fade. Most samples are impregnated with wax or resin to stabilize the colour. Turquoise is porous, and can be discoloured by oil and grease.

In many cultures turquoise is combined with earthy red and orange stones such as coral or carnelian, to harness the combined protection of heaven and earth.  Psychologically, Turquoise is a strenghening stone. It dissolves a martyred attitude or self-sabotage, it instills inner calm and aids creative expression. Physically, Turquoise is an exellent stone for exhaustion, depression or panic attacks. It enhances the immune systems, regenerates tissue, alleviates viral infections and heals the whole body, especially the eyes.  This stone is detoxifying and alleviates cramps and pain.
