Tiger's Eye
A member of the quartz family, this stone has a fibrous structure with inclusions of the rock-forming mineral crocidolite embedded in quartz in highly packed bands, this causes a 'cat's-eye' effect known as chatoyancy. Each stone displays different colours according to the exact nature of the inclusions. Tigers eye comes in brown/gold, blue/black (hawk's-eye) and red but most red tigers-eye available today has been heat treated. Most tigers-eye is found in South Africa, where it is found in thick slabs, together with the less common hawk's-eye.
The quartz cat's-eye has a greyish-yellow, semi-translucent appearance due to inclusions of crocidolite and, less commonly hornblende. It has a silky lustre and can be found in Sri Lanka, India and Brazil.
Tiger's eye is a protective stone and assists in accomplishing goals. This stone is useful for recognizing the needs of other people as well as your own. Tiger's eye is useful in healing personality disorders, issues of self-worth, self-criticism and blocked creativity.
