Sodalite is generally seen as a rich royal blue, it also exists in blue, green, yellow, pink, white and grey as this stone is allochromatic which means it takes its colour from the impurities it contains. Where sodalite exists alongside lazurite, it forms a significant componant of
lapis lazuli. It can be found in North America, France, Brazil, Greenland, Russia, Myanmar, Romania, Bolivia and Equador.
Good quality sodalite, when polished, can be difficult to tell apart from the more valuable
lapis lazuli.
