Opal
Opal is often - unfairly- considered to be an unlucky stone, but their are many types of opal which offer a wide variety of healing benefits, particularly relating to the emotions. It can be found in Autralia, Mexico, Peru, South America, Britain, Canada, United States, Honduras and Slovakia.
This is a delicate mineral, which should be stored carefully.
Stimulating originality and creativity, it aids in accessing and expressing one's true self. Opal is absorbant and reflective, picking up thoughts and feelings. Enhancing self-worth, it helps you to understand your full potential, Opal brings lightness and spontaneity. It has always been associated with love, passion and desire. It is a seductive stone and releases inhibitions. Wearing Opal is said to bring loyalty, faithfulness and spontaneity but amplifies fickleness. Opal is helpful with the symptoms of Parkinsons disease, infections and fevers and can strengthen the memory. This stone is beneficial to the eyes.
Doublet & Triplet Opals
Doublets and triplets are partially man made stones, consisting of only a thin layer of opal cemented to a black backing. This is a doublet. Triplets have, in addition to this, a clear quartz or glass capping over the top ro magnify the colour, protect the stone and give it a domed appearance.
Because doublets and triplets consist of layers, which are glued together, they should never been immersed or soaked in water, to clean them you can wipe over with a damp cloth.
