Jet is the waterlogged wood of monkey puzzle trees, compacted under the sea and washed ashore when storms disturb its underwater beds. It was popularized by Queen Victoria in the 19th century, when in mourning for Prince Albert she wore jet from Whitby, Yorkshire although it has been used since Stone Age times.
Jet is extremely light and sometimes resembles plastic or coal.
Jet, worn around the neck is a stone of protection. Jet is said to stabilize finances and protect businesses. It balances mood swings and alleviates depression. Jet treats migraines, epilepsy and colds. It was traditionally used for menstrual cramps.
