Hematite

This mineral has a high iron content. Usually found in lumps, it was dug out of the world's first mines in Africa but can now be found in Britain, Italy, Brazil, Sweden, Canada and Switzerland.

Hematite is metallic and heavy for its size and sometimes becomes magnetic when heated.
