Description Carved amethyst butterflies measuring 16x10x4mm, these earrings are sterling silver and have a drop of approx 32mm. Amethyst is a variety of quartz coloured by iron.  Shades vary from pale lilac to dark purple but it can turn brown, yellow or green if exposed to heat.  The crystal mostly forms in geodes, in rock cavities left by volcanic gas bubbles.
